The Program

This year for the first time, Reach will be in Sydney, delivering our highly successful and proven programs for young people, teachers and youth professionals.

The Reach Foundation (Reach) believes every young person should have the support and self-belief to fulfill their potential and dare to dream. Our specially trained Crew of inspirational young leaders run workshops, weekends away and large-scale events that build self-confidence and help young people connect.

Each year, we work with approximately 58,000 young participants across Australia.

On Thursday 28 May, 2009 Reach would like to invite you and your students to participate in two exciting programs;
Leadership Day (15-18 year olds), and Finding Heroes (for Teachers and Youth Professionals)

Unlike other professional development courses, this is a unique opportunity for teachers and youth professional to participate in our Finding Heroes Workshop, while your students attend the Leadership Day Workshop. For more information about the day and for details of the two programs, please see the information below.
LEADERSHIP DAY WORKSHOPS (FOR 15-18 YEAR OLDS)

The purpose of Reach Leadership Day Workshops is to inspire the next generation of young leaders in communities around Australia. The day focuses on different forms and styles of leadership, and inspires students to be catalysts for change.

In doing so, we seek out creative and passionate teenagers who have a point of view to express. We want those eager to lead and help others in an inspirational environment.

Does this sound like a young person you know?

These students may or may not be the traditional leaders; in fact they probably aren't. The most inspirational are often athletic, artistic, intuitive, thinkers, high achievers or more obvious natural born leaders.

The participants are guided through an interactive day of experiential learning, drawing from the media, film, music, real life heroes and genuine leaders from around the world, all with the purpose to inspire young leaders to recognise their gift and apply it in a positive way.

"I am a really shy person but this workshop has allowed me to speak up and make me realise I should be proud of who I am" Teiani-Lea, 14 year old participant, Brisbane

"It's amazing how a whole group of strangers can come together and speak up about things they would not normally talk about, trust and putting it all on the line, that's leadership"
Rhiannon, 15 year old participant, Brisbane

FINDING HEROES WORKSHOP

The Finding Heroes Workshop is a unique opportunity for educators and youth professionals to learn the skills that are vital to working with young people but often not covered in formal training – connection, engagement, inspiration and emotional intelligence. The workshop introduces the key principles and methods used by Reach to engage young people while providing practical examples of how this work can be directly applied in the classroom.

Reach believes that a focus on self-awareness and mental wellbeing are critical to any education program. By experiencing Reach the way many young people do, the program is an excellent chance to reflect on your own values and motivations and importantly, reconnect with what inspired you to work with young people in the first place.

The workshop is facilitated by Jim Stynes (Reach Foundation Co-Founder & OAM), Jason Shulman (B.Ed & teacher in the public and private sector for over 15 yrs) & our Reach Crew.

“The activities have definitely generated ways that I would like to run programs in future. This training gives you the tools and strategies not just the theories” – Katie, Canteen

“I really enjoyed the practical 'hook' activities and being reminded to be creative in ways you engage young people” – Monica, Teacher, Billanook College
